At some time the side covers have been removed and the brackets for the fixings have been cut off ? i have searched the internet but cannot find a clear illustration as to how they should look. I do understand how the correct fittings should work but not bracket positioning !
Hopefully this will help

The side panel bracket upto 68 was different to the single carb models as the coil mounting arrangment was different. however in 68' it changed to being the "single carb" bike type all the way through and the coil mounting position changed also to accomodate - this might have been a result of fitting concentric carbs and the float bowls fowling the exisiting mounting setup??
the pre 68 type had two brackets supporting the bracket, and was a right mecano like affair. One thing to note however is that the parts books never changed, despite the 68-70 bikes having the actual changes.
Hope This Helps
Thank you Allan very helpful .
