Disclaimer, I am a fairly new beginner to BSA's so my knowledge is not great!! So, where do I begin! My Super rocket will no longer start. I have replaced the plugs and leads. Cleaned the carb, replaced the fuel (just in case) and checked for spark. I managed to get it started about 3 weeks ago, it ran for a couple of minutes, then I accidently allowed it to stall, and its never fired up since!.
There has been some recent work, I replaced the copper head gasket, and therefore had to reassemble the rods and rocker cover etc. However, the fact that it did run after that (although briefly) makes me think nothing is majorly wrong with my rebuild? I've manually turned over the engine to check the valves move as they should. I've checked the tappet gaps.
I've also removed the kill switch wire to the magneto just in case the switch is broken. The plugs appear to be wet, so I'm fairly sure fuel is getting to them. Earlier in the year I replaced the wiring loom, but it ran ok after that. I've not looked at timing as yet. As I said, I'm a novice, so I may be missing something glaringly obvious!. Any help/suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
hi just a quick one but how good is the Mag............ as you said plugs are wet so got fuel....... I know you said it run ..... but as you know mags are not good if laid around a bit and might need an overhaul.....also just have a look at the points.

Yes, check the magneto. A weak spark can become no spark when the plug is under compression. It happened to me...

Thanks both. I was hoping it wouldn't be the mag, but equally was beginning to suspect it might be! I'll get it looked at and tested. Thanks again.
If it is a weak spark, try closing the plug gaps down to something like 10 though. This may enable you to start the bike.
OK thanks, I'll give that a go.
