Title: Speedo Diagram
Post by: Rob Neal on 25 Aug, 2023, 12:21
My A65 restoration is progressing albeit 'steadily'!  Looking at the speedo unit now as the trip knob has broken. Taking the mechanism from the casing it seems as if someone has been in here before (groan).  The speedo (magnetic) works when I run it on an electric drill but I can't get the trip function to re-set.  As it's been fiddled with before I'm not sure if what's there has been put back correctly. Before I take it to bits I've tried to find an exploded view of the mechanism but without success.  Does anyone have, or can point me in the direction of info/diagram that might help?  Thanks. Rob

Oh bloody wonderful!!  Thanks so much, really useful.  Will let you know how it works out. Just goes to show the worth of BSAOC membership. I'd been trawling the net for hours and found nothing useful. One call to the club and there's the answer!11

There is a book by graham blighe, called magnetic speedo repair, that I found invaluable when I had to repair one , book is available through his site at https://improvingclassicmotorcycles.com/index.htm
Also available, at least they were 2 years back at several of the big shows were replacement bodies, beztels and glasses for magnetic speedos that had screw on bezels rather than having to spend ages tring to crimp a bezel neatly only to have the glass crack as you think you've got it done. I asked the guy at the time if they had a website but he said he only did shows

That looks to be a useful book. I've ordered a copy so thanks for the recommendation.  Will let you know how things progress. Rob

I've still not be able to get the trip function to work so using the info suggested by the group I took this section apart.  Here I found that, whoever had taken it apart before had missed the spacer, washer thingies that are key to it working.  Why do folks leave things out that the factory obviously knew are required? So to save the speedo from scrap/spares donation would anyone have some of these parts in their bin of spares I could buy or know where I can get the parts.? This assumes they're available of course.  Thanks again.  Rob
