Title: Rocker spindle torque
Post by: chrisx1 on 22 Aug, 2023, 15:18
I can't find a torque setting for the rocker spindle on an A65. My barrel seems to be pre 66 as two rear centre bolts are 5/16", so I assume the head is also.

tighten it the same as any other 3/8" bolt, you wouldn't put 60ft/lb on it but you would snug it up tight ensuring there was a thick washer under the nut.

Hi Chris,
There isn't a specified torque setting for the nut on the rocker spindle. If you wish to use a torque wrench; for say a 3/8" 26tpi nut without the material spec I would use no more than 30lb/ft. The standard 3/8" spanner length without any extension won't let you overtighten, unless you're built like Arnold Schwarzenegger  :).

Regarding the two rear centre bolts which are 5/16", if you are a member of BSAOC it would be worth looking at service sheet #149 in the members area. If you have trouble finding it PM me.

Best wishes...
