Title: Lucas K2F magneto
Post by: keating on 28 Jul, 2023, 21:40
My friend has recently had a K2F magneto repaired by Paul Lynford which he fitted to his A10 but it does not spark when the bike is kicked over. When the mag is held in his vice and driven by his electric drill he gets a nice big blue spark. However when fitted on his A10 with the spark plug connected to the HT lead and held against the cylinder head there is no spark when the bike is kicked over, so compression is not an issue. The mag has an associated advance and retard mechanism. He is trying to get the bike running as he has a potential buyer, unfortunately he has been given a terminal cancer diagnoses and has not got a lot of time left. Any ideas as to the problem is with the magneto would be much appreciated.

I would suggest you contact Paul Lydford (I presume it is Paul Lydford of APL magnetos in Shaftesbury) if he repaired the mag.

I would imagine the ht plug cap could be the issue.
Magnetos must never have a resistive plug cap in circuit.
Unscrew the cap, lay the bare end on the cylinder head and kick it over , see what you get then.
The repairer only deals with the mag   which clearly works , not any customer leads  , caps
