Title: Timing bush
Post by: spike123 on 23 Jul, 2023, 08:20
What's anyone opinion on the old style main bush on a a65 1971 are ok or is it better to change out for the solid bronze one, the old type seems to of been put in recently and has about 005" clearance, I know it's supposed to be 001-0015" but what's your thoughts, I heard that the steel base ones separated from the bush, so if that's still the case I'll renew it

It depends on the competency of who does the work.

The original steel backed ones are more supportive, but should be pegged properly otherwise it has the chance of turning.
This is where the PB ones are of an advantage, there is no inner sleeve to spin, however the wall integrity isn't as strong as the steel backed bush.

So if you're keeping with the bush setup, find someone competent.

If it's any consolation, my bored and stroked A65 is using a Solid PB bush, so far so good, but im still running the bike in.

However. With the cost of having the bush work done, my next motor builds will be the end fed setup as it will last longer and costs much the same to do, you can also change subsequent needle roller bearings yourself without issue with line boring and aligning again.

If your Stateside (assuming by the $, but could easily be Canada or Aus), Ed V in Michigan could have done the EndFed conversion for you
