Title: Melted speedo cable
Post by: Barnsey on 22 Jul, 2023, 16:38
Dear All,

I am replacing the speedo cable on my C15 as a result of its outer being melted by the hot exhaust.

I can't see any way to route it other than along the frame next to the fore mentioned exhaust.  How best can I avoid it being melted again?

This new cable has a flexi spring coil over part of its length which the previous on lacked, and which can be slid up and down .  Is this   a heat shield of some sort?

    Best regards,

    Ian

I've run mine along the inner side of the frame tube and cable tied it in place.

Found this photo which shows cable run under engine.

OK Thanks for your help Colin,

I can see what you have done.  You have gone over the top of the rear engine mount and then inside the frame.  That should work.

Help!  I can see the issue now.  I've not looked at the bike all week and now I am revisiting it.

It is something which I suspected before  and then pushed to the back of my mind.

Your photo shows spacers between the engine mount and the frame.  There are none on my bike.

That explains why the crud catcher on the bottom of the engine is hard against the frame.  Also why there is no space for a speedo cable.

It looks like the previous restorer ( and I use the term lightly) left them out and then squeeezed the frame in to fill the gap.

Can anyone please suggest a solution?  Even if I can get hold of spacers I will need to jack the frame apart to take them .  I am not sure how to do this.  Maybe there is a tool?

     BR,

   Ian
