Title: stiff forks
Post by: chrisx1 on 22 Jul, 2023, 11:48
I have rebuilt the forks on my A65. new stanchions, bushes, seals etc. They are very stiff and give quite a bumpy hard ride over bumps and rough ground.
Im sure they should be better than they are.
Any ideas anyone?

Slacken the clamps and pump the forks several times. Then tighten the clamps up. This will align the forks. I've seen some folk push the legs together so they spindle ends align with the end caps perfectly - obviously you're pushing them out of alignment so you don't want to do this.

If you have the QD Type with the screw in spindle, then loosen the punch bolt on the left hand fork, then pump the forks with the brake on before tightening the clamp on the spindle.

My forks have clamps on both spindles, so I loosened those and the yokes, gave it a few good pushes and that has done the trick. Thanks Allan G
