Title: B441 Rocker spindle o ring replacement.
Post by: franknjan on 21 Jun, 2023, 19:43
Hi. I'm looking to replace the o rings on the rocker spindles on my B441.
Can it be done with everything in situ (after loosening the adjusters)
I'm thinking of, after removing the oil feed nuts and pipe, I could tap the spindle to expose the o ring and after replacing it. Tap the spindle back, maybe using a guide.
I know I should remove the top off the engine but that's a lot of work for a little job. The engine is oil tight apart from these seals.
Thanks in advance

I would have thought that, as long as the engine is at TDC on the compression stroke (both valves closed and free play felt at the end of the rocker adjusters), carefully knocking out the rocker spindles should leave everything in place. To be absolutely sure that the washers don't move, it would be worth inserting a drill bit of the max diameter possible through from the other side. Even if a washer moves slightly when you try to reinsert the spindle, it should be possible to move it back into position by poking something through the hole in the other side.
