Hello , can anyone tell me if there where different types of petrol tank decals for the 1969 B441 vs , mine's got a thick red/yellow BSA sticker that looks rubbish because it's bulging out where it goes round the edge of the tank . Did they come with separate letters or were they all joined up ? Plus does anyone have a new petrol cap rubber seal for the monza type cap? Do I need viton rubber now there's E 10 fuel ? Thanks in advance, Steve .
I think the original would have been a single water slide transfer in red lettering - separate letters but on a common transfer. I had my VS tank professionally painted and everything was air brushed on. If I had to do one myself, my preference nowadays would be a PVC decal containing all 3 letters.
If I remember correctly, my first VS bought new in 1970 had an all red decal. Got cremated in a barn fire in 1983. My second, which is mostly original, has a red, quite large decal but it doesn't go round the corner. It has a transparent backing joining the letters slightly larger than the letters. My third one has a smaller red ones, which I think is not original as it is an US import with a number of modifications. Do you want me to measure them?
Edit: My second ones decals looks like https://nationalmcmuseum.org/2017/03/31/1969-bsa-b44-victor-special/ (https://nationalmcmuseum.org/2017/03/31/1969-bsa-b44-victor-special/)
The VS from the 1868 sales brochure below shows the size and position of the tank lettering. My VS tank was painted by Piers Dowell back in 2006 in the year he won the British Classic Scrambles Championship - he was a custom painter by trade usually of crash helmets. For reasons I can't remember, he painted the red BSA lettering with a white surround that softens the contrast between the red and the yellow tank. However, at the end of the day, you have to go with what you think looks best on the tank.
Thanks for the replies, I think I've found some that will do , I think whoever put the ones on mine put them too far forward and has caused them to bulge out because there very thick vinyl and don't like to go round a sharp radius, cheers,
