Just bought a pair for a Triumph project I'm building.
They ain't going to fool anyone TBH, the Speedo has "Smiths" on the dial, but no trip odometer for a start.
But at £34 all inclusive, they will look OK on a bike built for riding not showing.
Now I'm just wondering if they will actually work.
Or at least if they work will they carry on working for a reasonable length of time ?
Might seem like a waste of money with predicable results, but
remember it wasn't so long ago that people were condemning all Indian made tanks as junk.
Anyone got any light to shed on their performance?
These magnetic instruments are so simple in design that there's not much inside to go wrong. Presumably the dials have the correct gear ratios for their intended use?
The Tacho is marked 4:1on the dial.
The eBay listing described them as being suitable for use on BSA, Triumph, and Norton, misleading, but about par for the course.
OK on an A65 if you don't mind the Tacho reading 33% too high, but fine for my unit Triumph.
TBH I don't even think they're the same size as genuine Smiths items, the same diameter maybe but deeper in the body.
Never mind, I'm just building up something for a bit of fun, not to please the rivet counters
I have the equivalent on my Bantam trail bike, I had to file the end of the cable to get it to fit but 100 miles so far and it's fine. Pretty accurate too judging by the digital warning signs.
There are some on ebay that are of the right size and take a standard cable.
