Hi all
I have fitted a brand new Amal carb and the bike has started well and ran ok on idle quite a few times. Nothing has changed except that now with the carb flooded and full choke the bike starts but only runs for about 2 secs, spits back through the carb and stalls.
Tickle carb again and it does the same, runs, spits back and stalls
Advance/retard is set about half way.
What am I missing please?
Thanks
I have had issues with a new Amal as it had some fine particles from the machining process internally which blocked the pilot jet. A good clean preferably in a sonic bath followed by a blast with compressed air may be the answer. HTH
Thanks for that. I'll take the pilot out and have a see.
Cheers
Hi
Pilot jet seemed blocked at carb end so blew it through. Started and after a warmup ran much better.
Occasional spit back but I suspect that may be a bit more about air screw settings so I have taken the screw out 1/4 turn.
Let.s see. If there is manufacturing gunge in the carb I suspect I will have to have it cleaned, although that should not be needed on a brand new carb.
Thanks for the tip. Dan.
The Amal mixture adjustment screw is an air screw, so screwing it out will allow more air in, weakening the mixture.
Normally, if it's spitting back, it indicates a weak mixture, so the mixture is richened by screwing it in.
Steve.
Thanks. It seemed to tick over better with qtr turn out but I take your point on the spitting back. I didn't spend a lot of time on it so it's on my list of things to do next week.
Thanks for the input
