Title: BSA C15S Start Up
Post by: bobby12 on 12 Apr, 2023, 16:39
Hi
Please forgive give me for these silly questions this is my first British build and I am learning so much from this site.
Having connected my fuel line to the carb all is ok, when I push the tickle  plunger I get petrol leaking out of the carb, bit of research says this is normal because you are flooding the carb others say there should not be any leaking because if the float is set correctly there should be capacity for the extra fuel. Would like some comments as to what is correct. Trying to start the bike now for the first time.
Thanks 👍

If you depress the tickler, the fuel level will keep rising until it overflows out of the top of the float chamber past the tickler. Normally, you only need to depress it momentarily to slightly raise the fuel level within the carb  to create a richer mixture for starting.

I assume you are going to do the usual things before attempting to start the engine for the first time: a few squirts of oil into the top of the cylinder, 1 pint into the bottom of the sump, etc?
