I've been offered a GRP tank for my A65 project.
I've been told by various folk that they're still legal for UK road use, but the ethanol content of modern pump fuel will attack and soften the plastic resin until the tank fails.
I knew that already, but I thought that a tank slosh sealer would save the day and give the tank a few more years of service.
Now I'm being told that slosh sealer will not adhere to the inside of a GRP tank, so basically the thing only has ornamental value on a display bike.
Anyone out there actually running a GRP tank with E5 or E10 fuel ?
Can they be effectively sealed or should I just avoid the thing like the plague ?
I think there is a law that prevents post 1973 bikes being fitted with fibreglass tanks. I'm not sure why you would want to fit one really as it won't end well in an accident? There are previous posts on here somewhere with the information.
Thanks for that.
I'm really only considering the thing just to see if I like the shape/style of it on my '69 Lightning.
It's the small export Spitfire type
The tatty GRP thing that I've been offered is about £150 less than a new steel one from India.
It might just do for the short term and getting the bike registered.
Caswells tank liner will stick if the inside of the tank is abraded slightly. Big problem is there cannot be any strands of fibre glass sticking out as they will act as a "straw" for petrol.
