Title: 1958 B31 Tank Badges
Post by: BazF on 07 Apr, 2023, 08:35
Are the BSA B31 tank badges being offered in Uk actually made in India ?

Quite possibly,  I got  tank badges for my Goldie  from India,  they are making a new version there  so there are plenty of bits for the new bike,  but the colour is not the same as original (they were a lighter red)  so I got a refund as they had original colour in the picture online.  I had to re-order from the UK. But I have seen the same colour from UK suppliers so I suspect they are Indian.

OK thanks. Just been looking at mine and they look bronze, but I suspect faded red. The piled arms are black and silver, I can't find this combination anywhere. They are very likely original.

Bought a pair from a supplier in Oz, and he guarantees they are UK made. Received today and very nice quality.

Still not happy.
I now have an original pic of my BSA, first owner, and the tank badges are black and silver piled arms. Background colour looks orange (ish), but could be well faded after 60 odd years. Anyone seen these black and silver piled arms badges ?

BSA parts bulletin G15 from 1960 lists 7 different 3 1/4 inch round tank badge colour combinations, 6 variations of part 56 8220 and 1 part 41 8004. Unfortunately it does not tell use which badge went with which bike. I think it inevitable, due to the demand, that not all colours will be available as newly made items.

BSA master price list from September 1970 has "use 41 8004" against part 65 8220.
