Title: Carb manifold stud
Post by: chrisx1 on 06 Apr, 2023, 22:29
Any advice on how to remove a carb stub from the manifold. It seems to be well and truly stuck in there.

 :) :) :) :)

Is it broken off or just gnurgled.

Is the manifold still on the engine

Broken off---Weld a washer smaller than the stud diameter onto broken stud. Let it cool then weld a nut onto the washer. You now effectively have a bolt and the heat from the weld shout have loosened it.

Gnurgled stud stiil manifold remove manifold from engine give the stud lots of hotness then put the stud in the vise and turn the manifold off the stud. Take it gently so as not to break stud off.

I have a set of stud extractors which makes removing mangled studs a piece of cake. My alternative approach is simply to use a pair of mole grips, if necessary, after applying a bit of heat although, in this case, they shouldn't take much persuading as they are screwed into an alloy manifold.
