Title: BSA B31 plunger 1954 Timing case
Post by: briancairns on 27 Feb, 2023, 09:19
Hi,
Can anyone tell me what the encircled 'nut/bolt' is on my outer gearbox is?
The red coloured bike is just a photo I picked up on internet.
The other photo is my bike, the nut/bolt seems to be a 'nub' ( with no tread) obviously broken.
What do i need to replace broken item?

Thanks

Brian

I believe you are looking at the remains of the internal kickstart return spring anchor pin that normally has a nut on the outside. As long as it stays where it is and the kickstart continues to work then it will probably be ok. Otherwise you would need to remove the outer cover to replace the threaded pin.

Great thanks,

I have to take cover off to replace the kick start bush as it is leaking, might be working replacing it whilst I'm at it.

Thanks so much

Brian

BSA part number for the kickstart spring anchor pin (which is a slotted head screw) is 02-3718 which is 1/4" x 26 x 11/16" and the locking nut is part number 02-0443 (it's a slim nut btw).. HTH
