Title: A10 Petrol Tank fitting and speedo
Post by: steve56 on 22 Feb, 2023, 14:56
Hi,
I'm re-building a 1957 swinging arm A10, some of the parts were missing and I have a couple of questions hopefully someone could advise on.

Firstly on the petrol tank, were the A10 tanks and DB34 tanks the same size / fixing points ? I've been offered one made for a DB34, will it fit ?

Secondly on the speedo, my bike has it fitted in a shroud with the headlamp shell mounted in it, I think people call this divers helmet type. I
have one of the reproduction speedos but there is very little clearance between the shroud  and headlamp shell , no where near enough space for
the speedo to drop in without hitting the headlamp, where the original smiths speedos much shallower ?  or am I looking at this wrong ?  Thinking
about modify the back of the headlamp shell but this can't be the right solution.

Would be grateful of any suggestions on these.

The DB34 tank will fit your bike but is the wrong tank a1957 S/A tank will have the winged badges fitted not the reccessed round ones that are fitted to the DB34 tank the receccessed round badges were fitted to A!0 from 1958 also the fuel filler entry may be different as the Goldstar had pipe vent fitted. As regards the speedo have you got the correct headlamp shell that fits inside  the divers helmet, the original has a recess on the right hand side to clear the speedo cable.

Yes the Gold Star tank will fit the A10 with no problems. The repro speedo that you are trying to use I would quess is an Indian made magnetic type. They are longer in the case also they need a different cable, the fitting at the speedo end is different. Also the drive ratio is different. You can get a repro one that is of the same dimensions as the chronometric ones originally fitted look on ebay and you can tell by looking at the pictures which one to buy.
