The fiberglass tank itself seems fine. I cleaned the sludge out successfully, and all went well.
I installed a new filter and fiber washers around the big banjo fitting. Prior to installation, I cleaned up the banjo fitting surfaces and the hose end, to make sure they were sanitary. I filled it with fresh oil to prime the system and now it leaks like crazy. I really don't want to tighten it any more than I have. Is there a secret? It's just a banjo fitting, for crying out loud.
Double fiber washers? Teflon tape? RTV around the fiber washers? Haven't even got the dang thing running yet and it's making a mess of my rack.
Had a similar problem with my B33 oil tank and finally used dowty washers on the banjo. It's not absolutely leak free but as near as. Just make sure you get the correct size.
The problem I believe is that vendors don't understand that Fibre Washers are graded according to their suitability for various applications. The ones I have bought myself have been a very hard type and as such would not seal too well. In my case I did teflon tape the threads too which helped, but Greenfields suggestion to use dowty washers is something I may try in future.
Thanks guys. Yep. These fiber washers seem very hard and very thin. Before I installed the assembly, I noticed the shoulder of the filter body was slightly above the top fiber washer. I was hoping that small bit of shoulder would inset inn the tank but I guess not. I'll find some of the dowty washers suggested above and see how that goes. Teflon tape, as well. I'm really trying to get a Brit bike that doesn't leak, especially standing still.
Dowty washers. Make sure you flat both faces of the banko. Yse liquid ptfe rather than tape , it fills larger gaps in threads
