Title: Rubber Fork Gaiter Fitment,
Post by: Pipknight on 13 Feb, 2023, 16:30
Hi Guys.
I'm a newbie, and my question is how do I fit a pair of gaiters to my forks on a BSA A10 ? Does the shroud come away complete, exposing the spring.? Thanks for any help.

You didn't say which year your A10 was. In principle you could probably saw off the lower part of the fork covers below the bottom yoke and then fit gaiters but you would need to leave a lip on each remaining bit of metal fork cover for the top of each gaiter to clip on to.

Hi Spaceman. Thanks. My A10 is a '59
Vintage , Will this be different ? I have fitted gaiters before, but on a Norton. It looks like the shroud could be separate from the bottom yoke. Excuse my ignorance.
You may be able to help on another issue. I want to cant the kickstarter back, as it's standing at 12 o clock position and is quite awkward. It needs to go to about the 10 o'clock position. Is this possible? Thanks in advance.

It sounds as if you have a Gold Star kick start quadrant. They bring the kick-start vertical to clear the leg when using rear sets.

The kickstart lever is fixed to the spindle via a cotter and the cut out in the spindle determines the lever angle that cannot be changed for a given spindle.

Assuming this '59 is fitted with the standard cowl and headlight, the lower fork covers (tubes) are spot welded to the upper covers. In principle, you could remove all but an inch or so of the lower covers over which you could then slide the top of the gaiters and keep them in place with a large Jubilee clip or similar. Ideally, there needs to be a lip at the bottom of the tubes to retain the gaiters in position.

Hi,

It would be a shame to cut the lower shrouds from the head light cowl especially if it is in good condition.  Perhaps consider trying to do a swap for the right parts for gaiters and a separate headlight shell etc. like a Rocket Gold Star.

Dave.

Thanks Guys, and Dave. Yes I'll
see if I can engineer a swop. The A10
I have is infact a RGS Replica with many Goldie parts.
