Hi,
Information required regarding spark plug grades for b441 Victor please. The bike is fitted with electronic ignition.
I'm currently using NGK B7ES is this OK
Are there are any benefits using say, B8ES or B6ES
Thanks Frank
The original spec for B44 spark plugs was a Champion N4 whose equivalent is a NGK B7ES. Interestingly, an N3 was specified for the B25 which is a cooler plug equivalent to an NGK B8ES. Unless you are racing your N44 and raising the plug temperature, using a hotter NGK B6ES is unlikely to provide any benefits.
Though the B44 is the only bike not listed on this BSA TSB (not sure why), it shows suggesting running cooler plugs. I found this interesting.
apart from the plug - if you are fiddling in this area then it is always prudent to check the resistance value of the plug cap.
if it is a screw on suppressed type Champion /NGK then use a multimeter on OHMS to check the resistance of the inbuilt resistor.
unscrew the cap from the lead - poke 1 probe in the plug end and the other probe into the lead screw end and it should be no more that 10K ohms - maybe even 5kohms
anything more than that , then throw it away.
for the want of 5 quid it can transform things
Have a look at Brisk plugs. Made to work in extreme conditions and 1 covers a couple of heat ranges each way of other makes. They are also damn cheap.
Thanks for the information and tips.
I have no running issues with NGK b7es, just wondering if there was a better alternative.
Also checked the plug cap resistance and that is below the guide, so everything is ok
Thanks again Frank.
