Hello,
Can anyone recommend a suitable replacement in-line oil filter for a 1967 WD B40 ?
New elements for the original Vokes filter are nowhere to be found.
Thanks
I can't help you with finding a replacement filter. I have found a suggestion that the oil filter from a Yamaha YZ400-F may fit? They don't seem to expensive to buy so might be worth measuring it up against the vokes filter assuming you already have the original one. I would be interested to know if the Yamaha filter fits. Although if the original one is not damaged and serviceable it can be cleaned out be petrol. The BSA factory handbook gives advice on cleaning the filter.

Out of interest, is the original filter no longer useable - mine was fine after I washed it in petrol as per technical handbook?
It's worth bearing in mind that the army went a little overboard sometimes in fitting filters and I'm of the view that this one is not that necessary especially bearing in mind the B40WD uses a roller big-end. My B40 didn't have a filter fitted when new and the B40WD engine is no different unless you are going to use the bike under harsh conditions in the way the Army did.
Something like one of these Morgo filters perhaps? https://www.morgo.co.uk/product-category/morgo-oil-filter-kit/ (https://www.morgo.co.uk/product-category/morgo-oil-filter-kit/)
They are available in both side and top feed versions.(https://www.morgo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/morgo-remote-oil-filter-kit-side-feed-black-4.jpg)
Thanks for your replies.
The original looks ok, but I was dubious about cleaning it with petrol.
I'll give that a go.
