Title: C15 SS80 oil pump replacement
Post by: rhyatt on 19 Jan, 2023, 16:39
Hi all,
Been working on my pal's SS80 with a lubrication issue.

When working on oil pumps on cars, I've always primed them, the C15 has a non return valve to stop oil drying down from the tank through the pump.
I'l prime both sides of the replacement  pump anyway , but will it pull the oil through this ballvalve OK on start up?

The scavenge side was the issue as the pick up pipe was damaged and sucking air rather than oil

Any other things to do on reassembly  please?
Thank you

It's the feed NRV that stops oil draining from the oil tank into the sump. This is after the oil pump and is forced open by the oil pressure generated by the pump. There's no need to prime this side of the pump since gravity does the work of filling the inlet pipe and oil pump with oil.

The scavenge side NRV just stops oil in the return pipe draining back into the sump when the engine stops. Normally, you don't need to prime this side of the pump either - if you wanted to, just fill the return pipe with oil as this will do not harm.

Do you mean a seperate on way valve on the tank outlet?
