Hi all,
The throttle stop screw has been broken off (no me!) on my Amal 376.
The manual says it's a 376/81. What does the 81 refer to?
The break is level with the carb body and I have not yet tried to remove the remains of the screw. I don't know yet if it will just screw out or whether it will need drilling out.
Any tips on where to buy a new throttle stop screw or, even better, a company that could undertake a drill/repair job for me?
I do need to service the carb but it would be no good buying the parts if the stop screw issue can't be resolved.
Thanks in advance
might get it out, undoing from the inside with long nose pliers. some screws are zinc plated brass and if wound in too hard will snap, had one myself also another bent so it would not come out.
should be able to get a new one from Amal or Surrey cycles. if you can get a screw of similar size, say 4mm or 5mm drill a hole in the centre and use as a guide to get the centre(ish) of the broken screw. then with a small jewelers type screwdriver you might be able to unscrew, also, if you can find one, a left handed drill bit in a drill may also unscrew... yes, they do exist.
bit late in the year to get a business to do it. so worth a go yourself..
Thanks. Slowly trawling through the info re Amal carbs. Seems like spares are not a problem so really it's a matter of getting the old screw out.
If not, it may have to be a s/h body or get an engineering firm onto it when we all get back.
Thanks for the advice and have a great Christmas.
Cheers
The screw is 2BA thread.
