Title: A65 crankshaft thrust bearing
Post by: Rocker mark on 20 Dec, 2022, 01:32
I am building an A65 engine, I was under the impression that post 1966 all A65's had a thrust bearing with a cutaway in the inner case where it would sit, I have a set of 1969 cases that don't appear to be compatible with fitting a thrust washer.

the engine number starts with CC, which as far as I know would mean march 1969

Hi Mark,

Are the cases actually a pair?  Could the timing side one be a replacement from an earlier engine?
There is usually a number stamped on the front of the cases and they should be the same and indicating a machined pair.

Dave.

This picture I borrowed from a previous thread shows the thrust washer in place. The projections from the crankcase side have parallel sides to stop the main bush from rotating with the additional curved cut-outs further out to hold the thrust washer in place. This one does not seem to have the thrust washer cut-outs?
