Title: A65 Carrillo Rods
Post by: ferretjuggler on 01 Dec, 2022, 13:07
Would a set of these rods be practical for everyday street use ?
A couple of pairs have come up for sale at an almost reasonable price, and although I understand they're almost indestructablely strong, I believe they're also a good bit heavier than standard rods.

from my point of view, yes.
probably over capable for road use BUT  I have a few questions.
reasonably priced.... why? old, mis matched. rejects, faulty or just old stock someone has got hold of.
have they been checked? I had a set of square 4 home made rods that came with an engine. I rebuilt 4 of the motors over a spell of 5 years but never used them, erring on the side of caution. so
is there any history? how were they stored??  crack detecting??

the guy in the next unit raced and rebuilt Frazer Nash and Becke Power Plus cars, HE got his rods from Carrillo direct, custom made from America, he was a engineering designer for his own company and John Bloor's first modern Triumph he enlightened me as to rods, balancing and possible problems encountered with used rods.

that said, get them and check them out. dial indicator, parallels etc you might get a bargain or you could sell them on again.

MAP make light high spec steel rods for $450us a pair. Lots of people use them in race engines as well as street.
