What is the bottom rail frame diameter for the purposes of fitting a bolt on side stand?
Thanks in advance.
Regards Rich.
It would help to know what year the A10 is. Not sure whether the question relates to the 2 x bolts that hold the frame tube clamping bracket together or to the pivot for the sidestand which is either a bolt or a clevis type pin?
If the bracket is still on the fram you might be able to bolt the after market side stand to it. If you just using a bolt on side stand on the frame beware they can turn when a load is put on them as I know to my cost. If using a bolt on put a weld on between the bracket and frame. I did this years ago and it is still working.

Sorry - misunderstood the question!
Why do you need to use a bolt-on side stand - does the A10 not have the original bracket still attached to the bottom tube?
As said, it needs the mounting bracket brazed or welded onto the frame otherwise the forces involved will simply rotate it.
Hi,
Early plunger frame had no lug. Clamp on type need to be really tight and some are prone to snapping at the lug.
Dave.
The 1954 season swinging arm twin frames did not have a welded on propstand lug. 1955 season on frames had the lug.
The tube is 1 1/8 inch diameter for swinging arm frame.
will have to look as my 1952 plunger has a side stand, as its running low the length has been cut down and wouldnt go on a centre stand. always assumed it had a lug all the time.
as for bolt ons, depends which one you get as most are one size fits all on that they are two halves that clamp and fit where touch.
My A10 is a 1958 swinging arm model but does not have the side stand lug welded to the frame, so not quite sure what to think.

It should have had a two part bracket for the side stand clamped to the bottom frame tube with the upper part brazed on. It's possible the braze failed rendering the whole bracket effectively useless with the whole assembly subsequently removed from the bike. Unless this happened some time ago and the frame has since been powder coated, there should still be some evidence of where it was brazed on. As said, any new bolt-on sidestand would need to be welded in place otherwise it will not be strong enough.
I have a 1952 plunger and there is a lug on the frame. I have managed to fit a side stand but its very close the the exhaust, so wasn't an easy fit.
