Anyone know which clutch hub (type 8) has 0ba retaining screws for the backplate and what it fits?
Not sure what you mean by the back plate. The earlier pre-1965 4-spring clutches had an inner clutch sleeve steady plate which used 2 BA bolts. In general, the clutch centre was held together by countersunk 1 BA screws.
Those are the screws I mean. I have a drum with 0 ba bolt holes?
Hi,
It looks like you have the early 4 spring clutch with the two thrust washers. It is held together by the plate and screws. If all is in good nick it can give a clutch with a lot less wobble than the later 4 spring and 3 spring clutches.
It does however have one less friction plate which may have been considered not enough as the engines made a bit more power. It will fit all A65/A50 models as the taper on the gearbox shaft is the same.
Dave.
No. This is a 3 spring unit.
Here's the A65 3-spring clutch drawing - does this look like the one you are enquiring about?
That type but the retaining screws are 0 ba which is wrong .
You mentioned 0 BA retaining screws for the back plate at the start of the thread - are we talking 3 long screws or are there 6 short screws in total, 3 for the back plate and 3 for the front plate? If only 3 long screws, are you sure they are not 1/4" BSC or UNF?
They are 3 short screws like the normal ones. I ran a 0 bag takedown. Haven't had time to check other yhreads. If the head size on the 0ba is the same I may be able to use the drum.
Not sure what happened to my last message?
I think I can use m6.
Hi,
They are part number 42-3183 1BA. Part list shows 3 each side.
Best wishes...
Not sure what happened but somehow ended up with the wrong drum. Problem solved , buy a new one.
Onwards and upwards.
Finally solved it . Someone had fitted the later through bolt type but tapped the holes out for the earlier end plates!!
