Title: A7 front forks
Post by: Howard Webb on 13 Oct, 2022, 18:35
I am trying to stop the clashing of the fork bushes on my A7. I am considering fitting a nylon bush between the two bushes. I am not sure how much clearance there is , but given the sag in the forks there should some space. Any thoughts?

I don't understand what you mean about the clashing of the two bushes. Are you talking about on the rebound when the forks are fully extended. Very often the noise can be cause by excessive clearance between the circlip and the bush. This will require shimming. Also re- sagging, are the springs worn. You could try some Edie Dow type dampers.

Perhaps the phrase ' They all do that Sir' applies here. On the older BSA heavyweight forks, there wasn't much if any rebound damping. As idie stated, there is the Eddie Dow kit which will improve this but you will probably then have to experiment with different grades of fork oil to have an acceptable (for you) ride quality.

I Agee with idie

As I have the same problem Now which I am Now Fixing, its the gap between the top Bush and the circlip so yes will need shimming which you get a pack and keep trying the best size that takes up the gap, also I am fitting Double Damper rods too,
I got told to use 20w fork oil but some people say to use 10w if using the D/Dampers, but I also was told someone with the D/D fitted use 20/50 oil and there fine....... But I Think I will go with the 20w proper fork oil as that have an anti foaming Agent in it so I will go with my Gut on this one  :D ;D :P

Mo,
Please keep us informed about this, I feel sure that there's quite a few members who would like know your findings.

I find that if using 20w oil with the Edie Dow type dampers it made the forks action rather stiff. I go for 10w with them fitted. It depends of course on your weight as well.

They are easy enough to drain if too stiff in action.

If you have to drain off. Drain a little and measure it. add the same amount of 20w you will have around 15w. This way you can reach something you are happy with.
