Title: C15 brake linings
Post by: Nicky Burgess on 18 Sep, 2022, 20:28
Hi,

I have just fitted (riveted on) some new but original stock brake linings and I have also recently put on a new rear drum/sprocket (a modern reproduction).  The hub rotates but is dragging and only a very slight move of the brake lever arm applies them hard on.

This is the first time I have done this and was wondering if this is this normal ? Do they need a certain amount of time to bed in ?

Regards, Nicky.

Have you fitted NOS brake shoes or have you actually riveted NOS brake linings on to your original brake shoes?

I had a similar problems after fitting new brake shoes which I assumed was down to the linings being a bit too thick. I simply took off some of the lining thickness at the brake cam end to give a bit more clearance. In this case with a new brake drum, it might be worth checking the ID is actually 6" and has not been machined slightly wrongly.

Make sure the leading edges of the linings have a slight chamfer.

New linings can take several hundred miles to properly bed in.

Thank you for the advice, I will have another look to check everything.

I riveted on nos brake linings to my original shoes, the linings were Ferodo.
