Title: 1965 lightning/ Amal 389 air slide (choke) query
Post by: geraldhattrick75 on 09 Sep, 2022, 19:26
Having decided to finish this 1965 A65 Lightning project in a 'Clubman' configuration and fit a twin carb (Amal 389/ 206) head, can anyone tell me if the carbs would have had chokes fitted, and if so, what the cable arrangement for two (?) chokes might be please?

Also what thickness of 'Tufnel' spacer would have been used.....

Many thanks,
Dave.

From 1966 onwards, the choke cable was fitted with a junction box to allow both choke slides to operate. I assume that up to that year, the single cable used only operated one slide?

The phenolic carb spacer was 3/32" thick.

The 1965 twin carb models also used a junction box.

My mistake about the 1965 junction boxes - I was fooled by the parts book which does show them!
