Title: BSA B31 1954 Kickstart SEAL
Post by: briancairns on 09 Sep, 2022, 18:37
Hi ,

I have a lick at the kickstart shaft.
I did a bit of research on this forum and now know that I can replace kickstart oil seal without removing gearbox casing........however ever, how do i remove the housing for the oil seal?  I have attached a picture highlighting what I assume is the oil seal housing.

Regards

Brian

Ok Thanks,
Do I need to change the bush to stop leak?

It is a poor design but a new Bush should either stop the leak or greatly reduce it. Make sure you don't over fill the box.

I wonder if a heavy-duty calcium marine/water pump grease might help slow down the leak if it was carefully packed in. I thought about trying it recently when I had a leaky kickstart seal. Luckily I bought a new seal and it tapped in nicely after the seal had been in the freezer and the case had a good warm over with a heat gun.

Hi thanks for reply.
My model has a bush rather than a seal. So probably will have to replace the bush.

Cheers
