Title: 1958 B31 Amal 626 carb
Post by: Nicky Burgess on 30 Aug, 2022, 19:43
Hi,

I have a B31 that has an Amal 626 carb fitted and I am really struggling getting it running smoothly.  I have had it running and riding but it never felt 100% smooth and also wouldn't idle when fully advanced (would chuff to a hault).  It was starting first kick but as the weather has gotten cooler it has got difficult to start, so was wondering if anyone has used an Amal 626 on a B31 and what the settings were ?

Any help much appreciated, thanks.

Cooler temp and now difficult to start... pilot mixture weak? air leak?
Had an Amal 930 on my B31 when I got it but was running very rich, poorly adjusted pilot and main jet was a 250, put in a 200 and it was better, since fitted a standard Monobloc and has improved although still could do with some tweaking.

not a fan of concentrics but like the original monoblocs. try the original factory settings and if still too rich go for a 1055 needle jet which seems to be more happy with modern petrol. i use k and n pod air filter . fine tune idle  using pilot air screw until no smoke from exhaust. if the needle is in the wrong possition acceleration will be obviously wrong. its taken months tuning my b31 with the factory settings far too rich, so i thought. but its the needle jet that affects the whole carb range.
