Title: B40 rocker feed...
Post by: griffo on 16 Aug, 2022, 08:05
Just bought a very early B40 that has supposedly been restored. I notice there is no oil feed to the rockrs.. Is this normal for an early unit 350 engine ?  It's just that I have my doubts...  Thanks

Hi
My 1961 B40 has brass rocker oil feed pipes and all others that I have seen also had pipes, so I would say it's not normal !
Can you post a picture ?

This is what it looks like on my '62 distributor B40.

The BSA unit singles are all the same and have the same external oil feed to the end of the rockers. Presumably, in this case, the domed nuts are on the LH end of the rocker spindles but there's no oil pipe?

I suppose some may well think that there should be enough splashing up the cast tunnels. Mine recently restored had new pipes and double banjo so shouldnt be a problem getting them, infact I probably have the old one somewhere.
only other feeling is taking some of the return oil away from the tank, or just lazyness. the question being has it got a tee piece in to take the feed to the rockers or has that been left out, possibly missing from a box of bits to build and as nothing there it wasnt put in!!

Been tinkering (plus searching my spares box) and found a used rocker feed pipe, complete with nuts. 'found the blanked feed pipe at the bottom of the tank.. Connected all up and now happy and ready for the Manx... Any others going ?
