Title: 1965 A65 lightning transfers?
Post by: geraldhattrick75 on 04 Aug, 2022, 22:17
I realised that I haven't put any transfers on my 1965 A65 Lightning and checked in the BSA owners  club manual...

I couldn't find any and am wondering if this is correct?

I have the badges 'wot I done' for the side panels.

I also have the standard tank badges, but no other ones... (headstock? Tail light mounting, stacked arms?)

Is that the lot?

This desire to put stickers all over t'bike probably harks back to my childhood and Airfix modelling.

I don't know the definitive answer but I would have thought, at most, it might have had a 'Made in England' transfer on the head stock and, perhaps, an 'Oil Level' transfer on the oil tank?

Thanks for that Mike, very kind.

All my own work?

All our own work....

I'd have been stuffed from day one without all the assistance from this site....

A huge thank you.

It looks absolutely fabulous - I wouldn't dream of attempting to add transfers personally - it is top hole as it is!

Hi,

I suspect that as the Clubman was limited edition bike any specific stickers would be hard to find and uneconomical to have made.  It may be worth asking the Regalia officer if he can help.
Otherwise use Lightening ones which I think is only the petrol tank one.

Dave.

Thanks again for the kind comments.

I've just bought the Roy Bacon book, should get it next week, so thanks Chaz.

Re your 'Clubman' comment Dave, I was at the National Motorcycle Museum on Wednesday and got a chance to peruse the one they have there.... and was pleasantly surprised to see that I haven't strayed as  far from the mark as I thought I might have.

Their colour is a bit cooler than the colour I had settled for and I've got both coils mounted fairly vertical- rather than the left one being horizontal and the right one vertical on the proper 'Clubman'.

Also, I'm using a single Mikuni carb (which I still haven't managed to get running right), but am now tempted to sort out a twin carb head and sort out a couple of Amal Monobloc's.... (once I've saved some more pocket money)

Twin head on its way to me, so I'm practically there....

Well once I've stripped it down, got it (and my two dodgy carbs) vapour blasted, checked the valve guides, ground the valves in, and rebuilt it....

Then I can; sort what parts of the two carbs can be used, buy the remainder, sort a twin cable twist grip and cables, and bought a couple of pancake filters- job's a good- un.

In theory.
