Title: Rupert Ratio Volume 1
Post by: bobby12 on 01 Aug, 2022, 22:18
Hi
I have the BSA service sheets which cover my C15S Scrambler but wondering if to purchase the Rupert Ratio Volume 1 manual for engine.
Can anyone comment if this manual is worth buying and is more informative than the service sheets for strip down and rebuild  of the engine.
Thanks

The BSA Service Sheets are pretty comprehensive and more than sufficient IMO for working on the C15. I've never used the RR vols 1 & 2 as a form of workshop manual but regard them as invaluable when it comes to understanding the differences in the BSA unit single range and how the design details have changed over time.

Ive used Vol 1 and really gives a good insight .
the service sheets are as written at the time.
Haynes manuals are ok, but lack a lot of detail, and with modern bikes done on clean specimens, working on classics, not touched but abused over 40 years is a different matter.
RR vol 1 on the other hand covers a lot more, how to, how not to, what can be improved, options etc etc,
if you can, use all 3.

If you are doing any work on the engine, RR vol. 1 is invaluable. I wouldn't be without my copy!

It is regrettable that Rupert resisted the temptation  to enlarge his repertoire to include the B range of singles!

BTW, the man has a fair stock of parts , new and used and knowledge by the bucketfull , if you have a query in his book, he is contactable in various ways , and will put you right.
