I've just rebuilt an A65L engine and gearbox. The engine is running great but I have a problem change up to 3rd and 4th gear from 2nd gear. The return spring doesn't return the gear change lever to the correct position to allow the gear change plunger to engage into the window on the cam plate. If you move the lever down ever so slightly from the returned position then shift up, it does. I have fitted a new return spring but this didn't rectify the problem. Any tips on how to fix this?

Hi,
Depends on year of your bike, 1971 has a adjustment. See attachment....
Best wishes...
Hi Bess, it's a 1969 bike so no adjuster. I had a Good look at it today. I managed to bend the new spring a little and that did the trick.

Hi,
Good news.
Usual issues are - When fitting the springs the spring prongs should cross over. There are 2 different return springs your year is the 68-3125, earlier models is the 68-3084 - may make a difference, as would cheap reproductions.
Best wishes...
Hi Bess, thank you.
