Title: BSA Goldstar 500 (1955)
Post by: dj_hunt on 12 Jun, 2022, 20:38
Good evening,
I am writing to see if anybody has any information about my granddads former TT Race bike. It was a 1955 Goldstar and was raced in the 1955 IOM TT and finished 10th. It was also raced at many venues in the UK and was fairly successful in its career. I know the bike was sold in the late 80s to early 90s from Witham in Essex. The registration was CVX 518; this may differ slightly as I know it doesn't exist on the DVLA system. Unfortunately my granddads memory is not what it was so this is all I have to go by. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
Dom

looking at the picture i would say they are two different bikes . The race bike looks like a gold star the road bike looks like a BSA B31 with a few gold star bits fitted .

I thought the same thing on the basis that the barrel looks to be cast, not aluminium but is there some way you can isolate the engine as a 350 and not a 500?

Evening all,
I really appreciate your comments on this; I have spoken to him again and he did in fact have two Goldstars, one of which I have now confirmed the registration is VVX 518. If anybody knows where this bike is I would greatly appreciate it. I will also find out if the other was a 350. He used to race his BSAs so programmes will confirm if he did have a 350 too.

The 350 was exactly the same only had a sleeved bore , smaller piston obviously , but not a noticeable difference apart from engine numbers .
