Title: PETROL TAPS
Post by: bobby12 on 11 Jun, 2022, 12:33
Hi
Looking for a new petrol tap for a 1965 C15S which has an aluminium tank on.
I am sure it is 3/8 bsp ? not trying to sound tight but has anyone had experience with these lower cost taps ? they all seem to come from China/India nowadays and the prices vary from £43 to £16.
Thanks,

where do you expect them to come from?????
these are the cheapest places that retailers can get from to make a pound or two. If you want British ones, the price would be more and there would be no or little demand , so no money in it for the seller.
Its all I ever use in my restorations for myself and customers. I dont even fit new corks to old taps, as they invariably leak, so customer returns. I have spare corks, but unless soaked and no play in the body, for the cost I would use new and replace when needed. but then I can get them retail.

Hi
Thanks for your reply, but can I ask what price range you buy your taps, as I say the prices run from about £43 to £16 , appreciate you get what you pay for but some importers just put on as much as they can, so could be same taps, could all be the same.

as a guide trade prices are then plus vat and postage, normally my postage is around £6.50, I save an order up or try to go through a parts book when starting a project, obviously, If I dont have in stock and a customer needs it then he has to pay vat and post otherwise I price and share p&p between ordered items.

Hi Jumbo12,

What type of tap do you have already and why does it need replacing?  If it is the Ewarts type with a slide and cork then just replace the cork.  The bodies do wear over time so if very well used replace the whole thing.  I have always used these taps and unless the corks dry out or are worn out they do not leak.  Some even come with a synthetic 'cork'.
Try C&D Autos as they always have reasonable products at reasonable prices.  Their number is 01564 795000
