Title: A10 ? tank badges
Post by: chaz on 02 Jun, 2022, 19:32
looking for clarification on part numbers for tank badges for the A10 plunger, its a 1952 but dont know if its the original or a different tank.
Ive got Goldie style round flat and later pear ones but these I presume are round but curved backs

The early A10 badge is a metal BSA with a wing gold in colour.

I can remember those metal wings on my 67 Thunderbolt but they were flat, Im looking for a pair that curve around the tank, do the ones 67-8070/1 curve for the tank Ive got? as mentioned, I dont know if its the original tank so need some to fit.

the next question, do I need brackets for this tank?
there is no recess, wouldnt know if its been filled.

Hi Chaz,

the thunderbolt ones for the side panels are flat. The Golden Flash ones are curved and as pictured have Golden Flash on them.  There is no bracket or recess, and as far as I know they fit against the tank.

Here's a picture of what the tank should look like. It should also have a couple of mounting holes for the knee pads but I'm not sure I can see them in the tank in question?

Just comparing photos, the pukka one above seems to show the rear badge mounting hole much higher than the front one whereas, on the tank in question, that doesn't seem to be the case. It would be interesting to compare photos of the complete tank in both cases?

Good morning,

I would say that this is not a 1952 A10 tank.  Looking at a previously posted image, the tank looks too short and the filler cap is to the left side rather than the centre.

yes, the filler cap is off centre, the cap has " 2 measures oil per gallon petrol " in the centre and makes of oil around so , presumably a 2 stroke tank.
the side badge screws are around 4inches up from the bottom edge. underneath there are two fuel taps towards the front

Hi Chaz,

The shape is very much like that of the BSA tank but just a bit smaller and forward location of the taps is very unusual.
I would be thinking possibly Francis Barnet or James.

Dave.

thanks Dave
the taps can be seen from the picture above just above and behind the horn.

will have to look into it further  if I decide to keep or sell. Youngest has now ridden the B40 and says its too small for him, so that might be for sale and now his Ironhead Harley has fallen out of favour so that might need sorting as well. Im afraid he is a child of the nineties and prefers his Suzuki Bandits, easy to start, ride and little maintainence.
