Title: A65 ignition timing
Post by: DAVE BRADY on 31 May, 2022, 16:51
Good afternoon,

SRM recommend setting the timing to 32º BTDC rather than 34º for the A65 as they consider this better for modern fuels.
Has anyone made this adjustment and was there any noticeable improvement?
I have stuck with the 34º so far but as I am doing a bit of maintenance I thought I might make the adjustment but is it worth it?

Dave.

Went to the SRM figure when I put the Boyer ignition on my A65 and it has always run fine.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.
I suppose if you went from points to electronic any difference attributed to slightly less advance may not have been noticeable.  I may just try it and see.

 :) :) :) :)

If you still have points, unless both sets are absolutely 100% bang on the correct gap, you probably dont have an exact timing e.g. 34 cos the points setting affects the timing.

Hi Mike,

On EI.  I did retard it a bit and not a really noticeable difference.  I will probably put it back to 34º
