Title: The dreaded O ring in heavywieght Bantam forks
Post by: Dean Southall on 23 Apr, 2022, 19:27
Its a pig to reassemble these forks without damaging the O ring. I'm on my second set due to ripping them on the first attempt and have probably buggered one of these. So before wasting any more time and money I am thinkinmg of missing them out and just using ptfe tape on the slider threads. As far as I can see the purpose of the o ring is to stop leaks but on my other BSAs we use twine or ptfe.

If anyone with experience of these forks can advise I'd be dead chuffed.

I cant remember using the O rings on rebuilding my forks. I do remember using PTFE tape on the threads to stop oil seeping out.
Give it a try, if oil leaks out, you know the O rings are needed!

I'm struggling to see an O-ring being used in a set of Bantam forks - my D14 definitely does not use them. What Bantam are we talking about out of interest?
