Title: Kickstart gasket
Post by: Barnsey on 23 Apr, 2022, 14:34
On my 1963 C15 there is a gasket which fits around the kickstart shaft inside the outer side cover on the engine.  I ordered a replacement but it wouldn't fit being much too thick and a completely different design incorporating plastic and a spring in it's makeup.  Does anyone know what I should order? The old gasket is just a piece of sheet rubber maybe 2mm thick, although it could have been home made.

Sounds like you got a kickstart shaft oil seal? Not sure if your bike should have one or not. Maybe take a look at a parts diagram?

I suspect that you are right, maybe there never was a gasket there originally.

The 1965+ C15 had a conventional oil seal in the outer timing cover for the kickstart spindle but the earlier models did not. Not sure why but the earlier kickstart spindle that fitted inside the gearbox did not leak oil from the gearbox and so didn't need a seal.

Excellent thanks! I'll throw the homemade seal away!
