Hi all, just stripping down my A65L for a rebuild and noticed that the chain side of the engine casing is touching the web in the frame where the swing arm bolt goes, should it be this tight ?
looking over and down the frame with the backend stripped there is no obvious signs of damage or alignment issue, bear in ming this is only looking down it by eye, with only front end left in.
Thanks barney
Hi,
Just had a look at my 2 A65s and the case is very close but not quite touching shining a torch behind there is a small gap. The gap is slightly different on each bike. Is yours actually touching or just very close?
Dave.
Hi Dave,
Thanks for looking, it is just touching as there is a mark on the casing, on a visual the frame looks fine nothing looks obviously bent or out of shape, it's now stripped to bare frame
Thanks barney
Hi,
I would imagine that the gusset would vary slightly during manufacture and your frame must have one on the limit of tolerance.
It may be worth filing a bit off so that there is bit of a gap.
Dave.
Thé very thought crossed my mind, Thanks again for your time

Before you take the file to it, may I suggest you check to see if the spacers are in place on the lower engine mounting cross bolt.. That MAY have an effect. But to what degree----no idea.

Thanks for the reply Mike,
There weren't any spacers in any of the mounting bolts
Thanks barney

OK Guys. Before I say any more on this subject were spacers a standard part on the lower frame mounting bolt. Cos after speaking about them earlier I am beginning to have doubts.
So Help if you would.

Hi Mike,
Yes there are spacers, earlier years part number 27-5676, 3/8"x1"x0.092" (some places quote 0.07"), item 43 on the image. Note 2 spacers were used up to 1968, 1969 onwards 4 were used.
OIF, slightly different dimensions, 4 spacers, part number 60-2331, 3/8"x3/4"x0.048"
Best wishes...

Thanks for that I was beginning to think I was losing it.
