Hi
Has anyone seen soft pads used on a B31 (or any other BSA) before?
I thought they were only used on model aircraft engines.... not sure I trust them! any thoughts?
I guess you just knock/press them through to remove?
Thanks Ian
Some pre WW2 models used aluminium or brass pads which plugged into the gudgeon pin. I believe not used by BSA post WW2.
cant remember seeing any but the Americans used to fit them, Also my ex unit neighbour built and raced Frazer Nash and Becke Powerplus cars from the 1930's, he always had plugs in the pistons, he had his rods and pistons custom made in America.
no fear of the circlips popping out and as long as the correct material heat and wear resistance they should be ok.

My sons 1930/3 Sloper has them. I would suggest theres no reason not to use them but I dont see any advantage.

I had a C11G that the PO had bored out to 300cc. He had fitted small PTFE discs in the gudgeon pin recesses. I know this because I swapped back to standard piston and barrel as I couldn't get a head gasket (composite or copper) to seal for long with the larger bore barrel. Apart from that the rest of his rebuild was reliable!
