Title: 1971 OIF Lightning silencer brackets
Post by: Richard PS on 13 Mar, 2022, 13:09
I went ahead and bought a 1971 OIF Lightning and it is rideable but needs quite a lot of work but was able to ride it 15 miles home. One simple job I need to do relates to the silencers. The current brackets are a bodge and so one bracket had let go of its silencer. I can see proper brackets are available on line and can see that there are two holes to take fixings from the slot in the silencer (so much more secure) but what bolts should I use? Are they unique or just hex bolts of the right size to hold the head in the slot when tightening the nut? If so, what is that size? Any guidance gratefully received.

It takes 1/4" UNF x 1/2" bolts although you could use the equivalent BSF, BSC or metric bolts if not concerned by keeping exactly to original specs.
