Title: Remote oil filter
Post by: AdrianS on 02 Mar, 2022, 13:29
Just bought the commonly advertised remote oil filter kit and it looks like the best place to mount it is behind the engine above the centre stand using the bottom bolts at the rear engine mount.
Before I start designing a bracket has anyone who has fitted such a filter to a A50/65 got any patterns for me to copy to save me making a pigs ear of it through trial and error?

Ive just bought on if I ever get the cases back, but being a custom, will have to find somewhere suitable.

Sorry to be a pain Bess, is this made out of one piece of stainless or is it 3 pieces welded together?

Hi,
Its one piece, I folded around a 60mm piece of wood.

Best wishes...

Thanks.
I can weld mild steel but not stainless!

I welded stainless last year for the first time using my stick welder. I must say that I found it no different to welding mild steel. I just bought some rods off Ebay. Maybe I was lucky it was just a 2 inch weld for a friend, it is still holding ok.

Hi

I made mine out of 1mm mild steel. Then lots of paint.

The last time I welded Stainless looked as if a chicken had been scratching around. It was in about 1984 and it was such a bog that I've never bothered since.

Good luck with it---worked well for me.

I've got some 1 mm mild steel and that's what I will use.
Hope it works for me as well as it did for you!

I think I actually made mine out of 1.5  / 2mm mild steel. Sorry if I confused.

I used 1mm steel, and modified the design of the bracket a little. All painted up now, and feels well up to do the job. Will wait a couple of days before fitting to allow the paint to harden, and then plumb it in.
