OK, just completed on my A10, it turns out too be a first reg nov 1959 A10R on the log book which i believe to be a super rocket and that it should have the alloy head on it, it is twinls front and cable rear brake, the tank is fitted with a monza style flip filler which i thought was RGS, any thoughts?
As has been stated many times on this website and others you will only know what you have if you send the frame and engine numbers to the dating officer and request a dating certificate, this will tell you the exact date it left the factory whhat model it was, to which dealer it was dispatched to and if the engine you have was in that frame when it left the factory. al info about how to go about this can be found on this website. Anything else is just pure speculation previous owners could have altered anything over the last 60 years.

For 1959, the A10 Super Rocket frame numbers started at FA7-8522 and the engine numbers started at CA10R-8193 which should help you decide if you have this model. The RGS wasn't introduced until 1962 although your bike may have inherited some of its parts?
ok date of original reg 2nd nov '59 chassis GA71536 eng DA10r2679
thanks for the rather terse reply bob i am not trying to build the bike up i have been riding for many years now and took this bike on from a mate who i suspect had it for 40 years, normally i would just get it done without concerning myself about what it is, it will never be registered UK again as i live in france (thankfully). The question was purely out of interest as i am about to put the engine back in with a view to riding it this spring summer. Never going to sell it.
The 1960 model season started in August 1959 . 1960 model frames started at number GA7 101 and 1960 season Super Rocket engines started at number DA10 R 101.
As bikerbob says only the despatch records will tell you if the frame and engine left the factory as one bike and what it was, Glass's check book shows the 1961 season Super Rockets starting at DA10R 3001 in September 1960 so your engine is probably later than your frame, around summer 1960.
Below from Glass's motorcycle check book 1958-1965 issue.
Why not post some photos of your bike?
i would do but even with one phone image it says file too big! Ithink the last reply confirms that i need too locate an alloy head which would be a good idea anyway. thanks
As you did not give engine and frame numbers in your original post And you were not sure if it was a Super Rocket also it has not got an alloy head and it has a non standard tls brake I assumed you were trying to identify exactly what you have and the only positive way to do that is to do as I indicated.
thats fine bob, i now know its origins are "super rocket" so that is the spec i will work too on the build but like i said i am building it as a sunny runabout, with no view too its eventual value, i just am looking forward to riding a nice parallel twin ( when i am not on my beemer 1150r or hinckley triumph tiger/daytona 900, i got it cheap and its the same age as i am and a brit thumper its an unexpected bonus that it once was an SR ;0)
