This is on a B25 with, I think, a 71 crankcase where they moved away from the union thing.
I've got to remove the engine and I thought undoing these might be the simplest way to disconnect
the oil feeds.
I loosened one nut, it turned freely for a turn or two then started to tighten up.
So not knowing anything about this type of fitting and what might be inside the crankcase
I did it back up again.
Any ideas people?
Don't know for sure but I think the nut is a lock nut, you screw the pipe into where you want it to be and tighten the nut to hold it in place.
Mmm. I wonder what would make the fitting oil tight.
It looks like there are Dowty washers under the nuts, which should seal the fitting.
I'm not familiar with those fittings I'm afraid, but I agree it's worth looking into before doing any inadvertent damage.
Looking at the pic the right hand pipe looks like it might be cross threaded? is it oil tight? the left hand one looks like a much neater join.
It looks like you can remove the rubber pipes by releasing the jubilee clips, so you can get the engine out and have a good look on the bench before you decide what to do. I would dismantle as much as I could with the engine in the frame (assuming it's coming out for a rebuild) to make it easier man handle it out.
Either way, once the engine is out, take care not to put any weight on those unions causing any damage, you may need to lay in on its side to be sure.
let us know how it goes
Thanks for the replies folks.
All very oil tight.
The engine is coming out and going off to a
professional builder (Roger Taylor RTS Racing)
to see why she's cracked the caps of 2 sets of pushrods
In 90 miles. I brought her newly rebuilt back
in the summer from someone who's done quite a few
without problems. See my only other post if
your curious.
