Hi, I'm trying to identify a front wheel hub I picked up recently as per details below:
The inner brake diameter is 7" (178mm), hub width is about 5.1/4" (133mm), to suit 40 spokes, one side includes a gear (44T) which may be for a speedo drive? There is a foundry mark which appears to read 'MALE'. The hub is ribbed. The ribbed section of the hub appears to be aluminium.
Each of the two spoke flanges and brake bearing surfaces are one piece (magnetic so probably steel), they are linked by four spars which join to the centre of the hub via a ring which carries the spindle / axle in an aluminium housing. The outer aluminium centre section sits in-between the two spoke flange / brake parts about 9/16" (14mm) behind the spoke flange. It does look like the whole arrangement is bolted together so could be taken apart relatively easily.
It looks like it has cup and cone type bearings which could make it pre-war? The spindle nuts seem reminiscent of those fitted with girder forks.
I have posted this same enquiry on the B50.org forum but my thoughts are that this forum has a greater breadth of knowledge and might be able to point me in the right direction
